Led by four seniors and seven home runs #7 East Texas Baptist University finished the regular season in blowout fashion beating Sul Ross St. University 21-0 in five innings. Seniors Alyssa Romero, Lacy Liles and Tawny Hank all hit home runs and senior pitcher Shelby Parker threw a no-hitter in her final game inside the circle at Taylor Field.

Parker was perfect in the first inning, including her first strikeout of the game. ETBU struck quickly after that. Jayme Perez led off the game with a double and came around to score on Romero’s first home run of the game that made it 2-0. A single by Lacey Lindsey and a double by Liles put two on for Kaitlyn Hollingshead, who blasted her second home run of the season over the left center field wall to make the score 5-0.

Two batters later, Lindsey Vazquez singled on a bunt and stole second during the at bat of Jessica Bowden. Bowden would drive in Vazquez with a single up the middle to make it 6-0. Two batters later, Jayme Perez hit her fifth homer of the year on a drive to center field that brought the score to 8-0. After a Romero double kept the inning going, Lindsey blasted her 14th home run of the season to left and brought the score to 10-0. The 10 runs in the first tied for the most runs scored in an inning by ETBU all season and the four home runs was a season high. They were not done, however.

Neither team would score in the second, as Parker had another perfect inning and would repeat that in the third, including picking up her second strikeout. ETBU would tack on more runs in the bottom of the third.

Pinch hitter Alexis Padilla walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on a single by Perez. After Perez was lifted for Jaycee Hallum, Romero stepped up and whalloped her second homer of the game and seventh of the season just beyond the left fielders glove to make it 13-0 ETBU. The next batter, Lindsey, walked and was followed by Lacy Liles’ 10th homer of the season and fourth of the series to make it 15-0.

Four batters later, after a double by Hollingshead and a walk to Tawny Hank, Krista Leal came up and doubled to left center field for her first career RBI to make it 16-0. Padilla returned to the plate again, this time lacing a two run double to right center that scored Hank and Leal to make it 18-0. Two batters later, Lindsey would single into center field to score Padilla and make it 19-0 after three.

Parker had another perfect fourth inning with her third strikeout and ETBU would add two more in the bottom half. Hollingshead earned a leadoff walk and Hank capped a magical day for the seniors by hitting her first home run of the season to right center field to bring the score to its final margin of 21-0. Parker would finish with a no hitter after a Sul Ross batter reached on an error to begin the fifth and was erased on a double play.

After the double play, coach Janae Shirley pulled Hank, Romero and Liles off the field for the final time and Parker finished the game with a line out to center. The senior hitters (Romero, Hank, Liles) combined to go 6-12 with four home runs and nine RBI’s. Parker pitched a complete game, allowing no hits and striking out three. Eight of the nine starters for ETBU had at least a hit and an RBI in the game.

ETBU is finished with their regular season and will now await their first round matchup in the ASC Tournament in Tyler next week.
