A leap in the dark, A pole vaulter overcomes her blindness
NBC — A Texas pole vaulter leaps her way into the state high school championship finals... and she did it without even seeing the results.
Charlotte Brown is legally blind.
She was born with normal vision, but developed complications as an infant.
Now, she has no depth perception, sees no colors and can not make out shapes.
She used her seeing-eye dog "Vador" to reach the starting line at the meet.
However, with the use of a beeper along with sound cues from her coach, and precise steps, the 16-year-old cleared eleven feet, three inches.
Brown said she was disappointed she finished tied for fourth, putting her one step away from the medal stand.
