The Longview Lady Lobos are off to a great start this year (12-4) and for Coach Keith Smith, Thursday afternoon's game against Wills Point was one for the record books.

Smith, who is in his fourth year as the Lady Lobos' head basketball coach, picked up his monumental 400th career win in a 66-27 blowout victory over the Lady Tigers.

Smith is a Louisiana native having grown up in Monroe. While he attended high school he participated in football, basketball and baseball and was all-district and all-parish in basketball and baseball while at Calhoun High.

After graduating he attended Louisiana College and later transferred to Northeast Louisiana University. In college, he was a member of numerous college clubs and participated in baseball.

After graduating, he coached at Neville High School in Monroe. He then made a move to Texas and coached at Malakoff, Victoria, Austin Westwood and Austin Westlake. His first head coaching job in Texas at Malakoff ISD landed Smith in the state championship. This was Malakoff’s first trip ever to the state championship. Smith has been named Coach of the Year five times, Dazzling Dozen coach of the year two times , Henderson County Coach of the Year, Cedar Creek Coach of the Year and East Texas Coach of the year while at Malakoff.

Also, Smith was named the Dennis Johnson All-Star coach in 2009. He is a member of THSCA, TABC and TGCA and has been on numerous all-state and all-star committees. He also has a basketball camp that he runs, called Texas Hoops and has run this camp in Maui, Hawaii for 7 years.

Smith is only the second women's basketball coach in Longview history. Smith replaced Tommy Aldridge in 2010, who had been with the program since its inception in 1978.

Congratulations, Coach Smith, on 400 wins!
