ETX native, former Dallas Cowboys champion dies at 64
MINNEAPOLIS — An East Texas native and former Dallas Cowboy died Tuesday at the age of 64.
Robert Newhouse's family told KMSP they were by the his side in Minneapolis when he succumbed to his heart disease. Newhouse suffered a stroke in 2010.
The fullback was born in Longview and played for Hallsville. He went on to star at the University of Houston and was drafted in the second round by Dallas in 1972.
Newhouse play in three Super Bowls and won one championship ring against the Broncos in 1977. He retired in 1983.
