A Texas school district is appealing the move to a new district in which they would be forced to compete against all East Texas schools in University Interscholastic League competition.

Ennis Independent School District will go before the District Assignment Appeals Committee of the University Interscholastic League at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, February 20, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Austin to discuss the new realignment.

After the UIL released its biennial reclassification and realignment data on February  3, all schools were given the opportunity to appeal their district and conference assignments.

Ennis, which is located 20 minutes southeast of Waxahachie, will be looking to move from district 16-5A to 14-5A.

As of now, Ennis will be competing against the following schools:

  • Corsicana
  • Jacksonville
  • Lindale
  • Lufkin
  • Nacogdoches
  • John Tyler
  • Whitehouse

The meeting of the Assignment Appeals Committee is open to the public and all interested parties are welcome to attend.

KETK will update information when a decision comes down from the committee.
