ETX native, former NFL WR interested in Pine Tree athletic director position
Longview, Texas (Longview News-Journal) —
Former Longview High School football player and one-time Chicago Bears wide receiver Rickey Watts said Thursday he has contacted Pine Tree ISD Assistant Superintendent James Skeeler to inquire about the athletic director position, for which the district plans to begin interviewing in late January.
Watts said he has been following sporting news in Longview and has been thinking of returning to Longview for three or four years.
He said he believes he can help Pine Tree ISD prosper athletically and academically.
“If parents want their kids to grow up the right way, my programs absolutely specify that,” he said. “If the pants are too low, we’re talking about pulling them up. If the self-esteem is too low, we’re talking about raising it higher by encouragement.”
Watts said his experience in organizing athletic programs in Nevada and Bermuda would give him an opportunity to succeed at Pine Tree ISD.
