Fellowship of Christian Athletes gear up for their big game

It came to East Texas three years ago and it continues to grow.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will play the Chick-fil-A Heart of a Champion Bowl All-Star football Game June 14 at Earl Campbell Field at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

High school seniors from 65 area schools will take part in the week-long event.

For a lot of the kids, this will be their last football game.

They will play it and pray it with Jesus.

"It's like any other bowl game where students get to experience a week of practice, working with coaches and meeting other people," said Tyler's Paul Roberts. "They also get to do it in a Christian environment where Christ is shared through the coaches and each individual."

Robert Bardin of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes summed it up this way.

"To see these coaches talk to them about who Christ is in their life, how they coach in the Christ-like way and what Christ can do in the lives of their players, to see them come to know Him, that they can begin a relationship with Him, that's the icing on the cake for the entire week."

Monday night in Tyler, coaches, athletes and cheerleaders took part in the FCA Banquet at Green Acres Baptist Church.
