Football: Hallsville players, coaches ready to begin workouts
Hallsville, Texas (Longview News-Journal) — David Plunk expects to see a combination of nervousness and excitement when the Hallsville Bobcats arrive for the first day of fall football drills on Monday.
And, he’s not just talking about the players.
Hallsville, a playoff team each of the past three seasons, held spring drills back in May so today is the first day the team can hold organized fall drills. The Bobcats can’t work out in full pads until Friday.
“You know the kids are nervous and excited. They are looking forward to it and dreading it at the same time,” said Plunk. “It’s a great character builder for the kids to face those fears. Everyone is apprehensive. It’s hard and it’s hot, but facing adversity and loving the struggle builds character.”
Plunk, who is starting his 10th season as Hallsville’s head coach, has led the Bobcats to the postseason for three straight seasons. The veteran coach said he understands what the players are feeling because he feels the same way.
