Henderson is Army Strong
Lions honored statewide
Henderson, Texas – December 6, 2010 – Dave Campbell’s Texas Football is proud to announce that the Henderson High School Lions football team has been named the Army Strong Team of the Week for Division 3A.
The Lions were chosen for this honor because of their teamwork, dedication, discipline, personal courage and integrity, values shared by U.S. Army Soldiers.
“In the only close game of the 3A playoffs this weekend, Henderson fought past a defensive minded Alvarado team, 20-13, courtesy of a stingy defense and a never-say-die offense that managed to grind out 20 points without its star quarterback, who was lost on the first series for the game,” said Adam Hochfelder, general manager of Dave Campbell's Texas Football. “Henderson actually trailed, 13-0, in the third quarter, but scored the final 20 points (13 in the fourth quarter) of the game behind an almost entirely run-based offense. Henderson’s final two scores came on drives that never once saw a pass attempt.”
The award will be presented to the team at a time to be determined later this week by a representative of the U.S. Army.
"The U.S. Army is recognizing the student-athletes at Henderson High School for demonstrating qualities similar to those exhibited by its Soldiers. Student-athletes and Soldiers share similar values, but more importantly they must be mentally, emotionally and physically strong," said CPT Anthony Whittaker. "We expect to see some of these young men competing at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the college level, or maybe even professionally in the future."
