The 2014 Great American Rivalry Series, presented by the United States Marine Corps, hits the road this season to Longview, Texas on September 5th to highlight one of the most heated rivalries in the country: Longview vs. John Tyler.

For the 11th year, the Great American Rivalry Series has selected an exclusive collection of top–notch rivalries across the country, covering 36 states and 92 cities throughout the country. Wrapped in tradition, these annual battles motivate the whole community, celebrating the schools, their teams, and their fans.

Series founder and CEO Rick Ford notes that, “With all the traditions of bonfires, pep rallies, and parades, high school football has brought together communities to watch their teams compete in these classic battles for more than a hundred years.”

The Longview Lobos vs. Tyler Lions will take the field for week 2 of the 2014 Series. Over 10,000 fans are expected to pack the stands at Longview High School to witness this classic Texas clash between these long-time rivals.

You can find more information at or through the Series’ Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts. Previews and past results will be posted throughout the season with details of the teams and the history of the rivalries, and after the game. Fans can relive the excitement with photo galleries and game recaps.

The Longview-John Tyler game was selected as one of the top 100 must-see match ups for the 11th Annual Series. These teams will continue the 102 year old rivalry this year after not playing each other for the last 2 season due to redistricting. After a 7-4 record last year, the Tyler Lions will be hungry taking the field, ready to take down their longtime foe. Longview and John Tyler are ranked No. 3 and 8, respectively, in the initial preseason Class 5A Associated Press state high school football poll.
