Nacogdoches’ Jaylon Lane receives 31st Division I FBS offer from reigning BCS National Champions Florida State
Nacogdoches ISD — A top college football recruit with a stunning 31 Division I offers takes the field next fall as a Nacogdoches High School Dragon.
As the list of college suitors grows for the Nacogdoches native and current NHS junior Jaylon Lane, so does the media interest in the 6’-2”, defensive back.
Reigning national champions, Florida State University, broke the 30-mark on Thursday and became Lane’s third offer in a week — Florida last Friday and Georgia on Wednesday.
Lane began his football career in Nacogdoches in eighth grade. However, when his father’s job required a move, the family packed up and moved west. The teen landed at San Angelo Central High School where he played through the 2013 season.
“It was a little difficult at the time,” Lane said. “Fortunately, another job opportunity opened up in East Texas and allowed us to move back and be close to family and finish my last year with the friends I grew up with.”
One more season of high school ball and then on to college, although Lane hasn’t decided yet which offer he’ll accept.
He hasn’t had long to consider them, with the first Division I offer only arriving in February. Considered a slow start by some at a time when schools begin wooing top players as early as their sophomore years.
