The Fearsome 5A.

That's the new East Texas district that has gotten even tougher.

It has added Lufkin and last year's state semifinalist, Ennis.

"They have a lot of good football teams in this district," said Ennis coach Jack Alvarez. "We're excited to get a chance to play with them."

"We have a lot of teams in this district that went deep in the playoffs," said John Tyler coach Ricklan Holmes. "Ennis, Whitehouse, us and Corsicana made it."

"You've also got Lufkin, another 5A powerhouse that could be considered a 6A program," Holmes added. "You put all those teams in with us, with the already strong district we had, it makes it pretty tough."

"I think it's one of the toughest in the state of Texas," said Lindale coach Mike Meador. "With John Tyler, Whitehouse, Nacogdoches and Corsicana it's already a tough district.

"Then they throw Ennis and Lufkin in there," Meador added. "It makes it that much more difficult."

Jacksonville coach Chris Taber may have the best nickname for this new district.

"We can call it the NFL of East Texas," Taber said.
