Tyler, Texas (KETK) —
Whitehouse senior star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, has been named the 2013 Texas Associated Press Sports Editors high school football player of the year.
Mahomes, a Texas Tech commit, threw for 4,619 yards and 50 touchdowns in 2013, while only recording six interceptions. He also rushed for 920 yards and 15 additional touchdowns to round out a stellar senior year.
The standout signal-caller led the Wildcats to a 12-1 season, having only lost to Mesquite Poteet, 65-60, Friday, November 29, in Allen.
At 6'3" and 214 pounds, Mahomes is slated to be a dual-sport athlete at Tech, with offers in both football and baseball and will also, reportedly, be a high pick in upcoming Major League Baseball draft.
