Former John Tyler High School and Major League Soccer star, Daniel Hernández, will host a soccer camp in Tyler.

A former professional defensive midfielder, Hernández, 37, will put on the "Daniel Hernández All Stars" soccer camp, Saturday, September 14, and Sunday, September 15, 2013, at Lindsay Park in Tyler. The camp will run from 8:30 a.m., - 10:30 a.m., for the morning session and 4:00 p.m., - 6:00 p.m., for the afternoon session.

The camp is open to boys and girls, ages four to 15, while also allowing high school students to attend when registering as a team.
The cost is $90 per camper and $75 for each additional sibling. Registration will need to be complete by Wednesday, September 11.

Tuition includes one-on-one instruction by 15-year year professional, Hernández, and licensed coaches, and All Star camp t-shirt and an autograph/photo session.

Campers will need to bring soccer shoes, shin guards, a soccer ball and water.

In addition to soccer, Hernández, a 1994 John Tyler graduate and football player, set a school record as All-East Texas place kicker, with a 53-yard field goal.

After attending Creighton University for his freshman year on a soccer scholarship, Daniel transferred to Southern Methodist University in the fall of 1995 to play football and soccer, on what most people don't know, a football scholarship. On the football field as a junior, Hernández, the starting SMU Mustangs place kicker, scored a team high 70 points and set a school record with a perfect four for four field goals in one game.

After playing two years of football and soccer, Daniel focused solely on soccer as a senior, where he captained the team as an attacking midfielder. He was a three-time All-Midwest First Team member, two-time Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, three-time All-American, Herman Trophy Finalist, Sullivan Award Finalist, and "1998 Umbro National College Player of the Year".

Hernández was also selected to the Elite 16 Men's College All Star Team, and named one of 11 Most Valuable Collegiate Players by Soccer America Magazine. Hernández finished his collegiate career ranked fifth in team history, scoring 92 points. His 36 assists are second all time for the Mustangs

Hernández was called to U.S. National Team camp by Bruce Arena for its friendly game against El Salvador on November 17, 2002.

He was also in the U.S. camp prior to the World Cup, for a FIFA qualifier vs. Panama on October 12, 2005, and was named to the squad for the match. Hernández was also a member of the U.S. Under-17, -18, -20, and -23 National Teams.
