John Tyler alum selected as Whitehouse girls' basketball coach
Whitehouse, Texas (KETK) — Whitehouse Independent School District has announced its new head girls’ basketball coach as Melanie Lane.
Lane comes to Whitehouse from Irving High School where she served as assistant girls’ basketball and track coach. Prior to Irving ISD Lane served as head girls’ basketball coach for Green B. Trimble Technical High School in Fort Worth. While there Lane lead the girls’ basketball team to one title as co-district champions, two second place and one third place district champion titles. As a head coach Lane’s record is 114-50.
Lane was a four-year Varsity Letterman at John Tyler High School and went on to receive a four-year scholarship to play basketball for the University of Texas at Arlington. While at UTA she helped lead the girls’ basketball team to a Southland Conference Championship. The championship title qualified the team for a spot in the NCAA Tournament, a first in UTA history.
The decision was approved by WISD administrators Tuesday morning. “We are very excited to welcome Coach Lane as our head girls’ basketball coach,” said Athletic Director Richard Peacock. “Her passion, excitement and love for basketball is very evident. We look forward to great things to come from our girls’ basketball program.”
