To some, basketball is just a game, but to Mike and Mitch Marquis, it's an integral part of their family. Mike, the father, is the head coach of the TJC men's basketball team. Mitch, the son, is the point guard for the Whitehouse Wildcats.

Both father and son have seen enormous amounts of success this season as they have a combined record of 49-3. And apparently the competitiveness these two display on the court, finds it's way into their home as well.

"Clearly there's a lot of personal pride and there's a little competitive flavor in that as well," TJC coach Mike Marquis said." Actually I'm in third place at 22-1, and Mitch is 27-1, and McCade, our eight year old, is 6-0. So he's got the best record right now."

"We do competitions and stuff around the house, but it's fun," Mitch Marquis said. "He's had a really good season. Hopefully they can keep it going and go all the way, and we're just trying to do the same thing here at Whitehouse."

While this father/son combo share a competitive drive, they both realize that when the ball stops bouncing, their relationship is the most important thing.

"My dad wouldn't care if I didn't play basketball or if I did," Mitch Marquis said. "He's always there for me no matter what. In basketball or just in life in general. It's truly a blessing to have him there."

"When he's 30 years old, I want him to think that I was a good dad'" Mike said. "I'm not sure I'm worried what kind of coach he thinks I am."

To the Marquis men the game of basketball is an important part of their lives, but it will never be as important as the relationship between father and son.
