A'Quonesia Franklin was all-state at John Tyler. Saturday, she led Texas A&M to its first Big 12 Tournament title. 'Aqua' led the Aggies with 19 points in the conference championship game. Now, it's on to the national tournament.
"It's been a long time since A&M had done it," said Franklin. "It means a lot to us. We're very excited."
Delbert Simpson was all-state at John Tyler. He was honorable mention all-region at Tyler Junior College. Now, he's helping Baylor go to the national tournament for the first time in 20 years.
Raymond Hicks was all-state at Longview High School. Now, he's leading Miami into the national tournament. The Miami Hurricanes will play St. Mary's at Little Rock Friday morning.
Damion James is an East Texas Longhorn. The sophomore from Nacogdoches will lead Texas against Austin Peay Friday at Little Rock. The 'Horns are a #2 seed nationwide.
Stephen F. Austin State University is playing in a post-season national tournament for the first time since 1987. SFA will play in the NIT. The Lumberjacks will play UMass in the National Invitational Tournament Tuesday night.
The 'Jacks won the Southland Conference championship and the Purple People have won 26 games so far this season. They're having one of the best seasons in school history.
Kurt Budke won four national championships with Trinity Valley in the '90s. Now, he is leading Oklahoma State into the national tournament. The OSU Cowgirls are headed to the Big Dance.
Trinity Valley is going back to the national tournament for the fourth time in the last eight years. The Lady Cardinals won it all with a perfect season four years ago. The team from Athens will play in Kansas Wednesday.
