Jacksonville High School is adding a tenured head coach to their basketball program this year.

Coach Mark Alexander will be leading the Indians, who finished the 2012-2013 season with a phenomenal 33-2 record having their only two losses coming from John Tyler in district play and McKinney North in the Texas State Playoffs.

Jacksonville Athletic Director, Chris Taber, tells KETK he is very excited to have a man of Alexander's caliber join their program.

Taber says Alexander signed his contract at around 1:00 p.m., on Thursday and then was taken on a tour of the facilities.

"We are really excited to get him," said Taber. "It is an unbelievable hire this late in the year. Coach Alexander has a great basketball background and brings a lot to the table with his character and being a great role model for the kids. We're excited to get it going to the next level."

With Alexander being a Jacksonville native, Taber says Alexander is glad to come home.

"Mark has been out of coaching for two years and was eager to get back to the coaching profession," said Taber. "He missed it and it's a great opportunity for him and his family and us as a total sports program."

Alexander returns to Jacksonville after serving as the Henderson head boy's basketball coach for six years and leading the Lions to the playoffs.

Alexander will take the place of Brent Kelley, who is now the new head coach at Whitehouse.
