No. 3 Alto Lady Jackets survive Grapeland rally, escapes with 4-2 victory

In a battle of top 10 softball programs, Tuesday night, Grapeland wasn't able to overcome the big hole it dug itself into against No. 3 Alto, as they fell to the Lady Jackets, 4-2.

No. 7 Grapeland scored on an RBI triple by Shelby Frauenberger in the fourth inning and a groundout by Clara Shaw in the fifth inning. Despite its efforts, Grapeland couldn't get over the hump.

Laney Black was hot from the plate for Alto going went 2-3, driving in one and scoring one run. She singled in the first and second innings.

Madison Crisp was a workhorse on the rubber for the Lady Jackets pitching seven innings and allowing two earned runs, four hits and three walks while striking out five.

The lead stayed with Alto after the first inning, when it scored one run on an RBI single by Alyssa Duplichain.

The Lady Jackets built upon its lead with three runs in the second behind  a double by Vanessa Salgado's  who knocked in Alexa Russo and Dariyana Moore. Her double was followed up by Black's single, plating Saldado.

Alto will compete in the Nacogdoches/Central Heights Tournament in Nacogdoches beginning Thursday, February 20. The official bracket and times are not yet determined.
