According to ESPN Central Texas, Edward "Eddie" Briles, the brother of beloved Baylor head football coach, Art Briles, passed away Wednesday morning in an Abilene hospital after suffering a head injury.

Baylor Athletic Director Ian McCaw released a statement, Wednesday night regarding this tragic incident:

“Our deepest condolences go out on behalf of Baylor Nation to the Briles family following the loss of Coach Art Briles’ older brother Eddie earlier today. We’ve seen an immediate and overwhelming outpouring of love and sympathy. We ask Baylor Nation to support Coach Briles and his family by respecting their privacy as they mourn their loss."

Briles' parents and aunt were killed in October 1976, after being hit head on by a truck as they drove from Rule to Dallas to watch Briles play as a Houston Cougar against SMU.

Briles is now the lone survivor in his immediate family.

Baylor faces TCU, Friday in a Big XII battle after falling to Oklahoma State last Saturday night,
