TYLER - The nation's unemployment rate is now the highest its been in more than 15 years.
According the U.S Labor Department, it bolted to 7-point-2 percent in December.
And, employers slashed 524-thousand jobs.
For all of 2008, the economy lost 2-point-six million jobs.
That's the most since 1945.
In that year, 2-point-8 million jobs were lost.
Government officials say, the latest numbers show just how bad a recession we are in nationally.
Those who work at Workforce Solutions East Texas say, the unemployment rate across East Texas isn't getting any better.
East Texans are losing their jobs every single day.
Stephen Lynch is the Director of Workforce Solutions.
He tells us, on a normal day, they are used to seeing at least 250 people in-and-out of their doors looking for jobs.
Now, they say, in just the past few weeks, they've seen that number increase to 400.
Lynch says, everyone has been affected.
Lynch says, "You're looking at a lot of people that have been employed at some jobs for an extended period of time, and they've been laid off for the first time. They're looking for a job."
Lynch says, the best piece of advice he can give right now— is make finding a job, your new job.
Also— don't give up.
He says, there are employers looking for employees even in these tough times.
