Minneapolis, MN (Texas Rangers Media Release) — The Rangers entered the All-Star break riding an 8 game losing streak and the worst record in the majors.
The good news is they still have an impressive minor league system.
Frisco RoughRiders infielder Joey Gallo was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the 2014 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday afternoon at Target Field.
Gallo connected for the game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning off Michael Feliz (Astros) to give the U.S. Team a 3-2 victory over the World Team. Overall, Gallo was 1-for-4 as the DH for the U.S. Team, which won for the fifth consecutive year and leads the all-time series, 10-6.
It marked the first time in the 16-year history of the All-Star Futures Game that a member of the Texas Rangers organization has been selected as the MVP.
Gallo has combined for a .307 (89-290) average with 31 homers, tied for the overall minor league lead, and 73 RBI in 85 games between High-A Myrtle Beach and Double-A Frisco in 2014.
Myrtle Beach catcher Jorge Alfaro was 0-for-2 as the starting catcher for the World Team.
