USC football star admits to lying about heroic tale
Josh Shaw -- a fifth year senior at USC -- was praised Tuesday for his heroics after saving his 7-year-old nephew from drowning.
Shaw sustained high ankle sprains in both ankles after jumping from a second-story window onto a concrete deck before saving his relative from the pool. Only 24 hours, and multiple phone calls later, Shaw's account of the story has been brought into question.
Coach steve sarkisian said the team will focus on football, and let the campus authorities worry about the rest.
"It's pretty clear there's quite a few conflicting stories out there. any information that we've been provided up unto this point, we've pushed along to campus authorities. we're really going to let it play out in their hands up until this point and quite honestly we're in somewhat of a holding pattern, so that's where we're at."
Shaw later admitted to giving a false story and has been suspended indefinitely. The school would not comment on how the athlete was injured.
The 15th-ranked trojans open their season on August 30th against Fresno State.
