The UT Tyler softball team received six out of the possible eight first-place votes, and is ranked No. 1 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top-25 poll. The Patriots are 35-2 overall, and 29-1 in the American Southwest Conference.

UT Tyler ranks atop the NFCA poll for the first time since April 2013, when the Patriots were tied (three first-place votes) at first with Montclair State.

The Patriots currently lead the ASC by three games, and are one win short of clinching the conference's regular-season title.

Last week's No. 1 team, Salisbury (33-3), dropped four spots to No. 5 after losing two-of-three games, both to No. 7 Christopher Newport in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament.

Montclair State (30-2), last week's No. 2 ranked team, dropped two of its last four games, dropping to No. 4 in this week's poll.

Tufts (26-3) recieved one first-place vote is is No. 2 in the week's poll, while No. 3 Trine (30-1) also received a first-place vote.

Montclair State and Linfield (34-7) round out the top-five teams in the poll.

UT Tyler will close out the regular season with a three-game series against Louisiana College, beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday.
