Statue in the works to honor slain Navy SEAL from TX
Arlington, TX (WFAA) — A statue is being created to honor slain Navy SEAL, Chris Kyle.
Florida artist Greg Marra sculpted the clay model and Schaefer Art Bronze Casting in Arlington has taken over the project.
The first of several coats of urethane rubber has been added. Schaefer Casting will cut the statue into pieces, create molds for wax filling, make a shell from silica sand and bake out the wax.
Kyle's family had stitching matching that of his belt to the statue last weekend. His two children put tiny bears by his boots and his widow left a message engraved on a heart, as if it had fallen at his feet.
It is a 14-step process with no room for mishaps and could take up to three months before the public gets its first look at the finished project.
Kyle, of Odessa, was shot and killed at a Texas shooting range in February. Another veteran is charged in his killing.
