HENDERSON — Kelly and Beverly Hall own Fiberglass Creations in Henderson.

Their family started out making fiberglass steeples and baptistries in the '60s and they've continued the fiberglass tradition -- but they're keeping people safe in the process.

They build storm shelters.

"Well it's kind of like an insurance policy, you hope you never, ever have to use it, but if you do need it, it's there to protect your life and the lives of those you love," Beverly Hall said.

Hall tells KETK, their FEMA-approved underground storm shelters called 'The Refuge' come in small, medium and large -- and they're extremely popular right now with all of the recent tornadoes.

The same goes for other storm shelter manufacturers across the nation.

"We are really, really, really having to beef up our production and do some expansion to keep up with the demand," Beverly Hall said.

Kelly Hall gave KETK a tour through the facility to show us how the shelters are built...

They're painted with a gel-coat, assembled, and you eventually get the final product.

Hall tells KETK they sent one of their doors to be impact-tested at Texas Tech by shooting a 2x4 out of an air cannon at 67 miles per hour right at the door.

Needless to say, they passed.

"Non-skid steps with carpet inside, hand rails, each door is manufactured and has 3 locks which is required by FEMA guidelines.  Once you get inside, you'll pull the handle down, pull this lever," Kelly Hall said.
