Tatum rolls past Melissa, headed to state championship

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Desmond Fite scored 21 points and Brandon Woodard made five 3-pointers to lead Tatum past Melissa 70-57 in the Class 2A semifinals Friday.
Kendall Bell added 20 points for Tatum (32-7), which used a 12-0 run in the second quarter to break the game open. Tatum made six 3-pointers in the first half.
Tatum led 36-25 at halftime. Melissa cut the lead to six in the third quarter before a pair of 3-pointers by Woodard and Bell ended the rally. Woodard was 5 of 10 from beyond the arc.
Zach Helmburgher had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Hondo Webb had 15 points and 10 boards for Melissa (36-2).
Melissa outrebounded Tatum 40-24 but couldn't overcome 22 turnovers that led to 22 points by Tatum.
