Tyler, TX — Texas Parks and Wildlife are seeking corporate partnerships for funding to maintain services. The agency is focusing on continuing to build customer base.
One proposal can make that happen.
"We had to develop rules for those sponsorships, so far the last few months we have been developing those rules, and now we are closer to going and seeking those sponsorships," said Bill Smart, Park Superintendent.
Agency officials say they have suffered budget cuts of $114 million, or 17.6%, in recent years legislature struggled with $27 billion shortfall.
The agency plans to offer companies use of their logo and brand in exchange for revenue to meet their financial challenges, and to accomplish their goal.
Business partnerships can help Texas Parks and Wildlife raise money by obtaining a request proposal which includes rules and guidelines for funding.

This sounds like genuine, authentic, unadulterated Perry dogma i.e. straight from the horse's mouth. Repub-Base +Perry = give Texas to the Corporation and let them govern it.
The same wealthy and corporations who are now willing to give a PORTION of that surtax back in exchange for advertising opportunities and eventual control of our State Parks.
We should ask our legislature :
Why didn't we just keep the surtax and use it for the purpose you originally took it from us for?
What this article has failed to mention & remind us of, is the SURTAX our legislature placed on all sporting goods just for this very purpose, to maintain and even increase, our State Parks. What this article also seems to be hiding is that about 90% of that surtax was immediately diverted to the general fund and used to give tax breaks to the wealthy. The same wealthy and corporations who are now willing to give a PORTION of that surtax back in exchange for advertising opportunities
Our state government is still diverting every fee possible into the general fund.
Gax tax.,Sporting goods surcharge.,911 equalization fee.,Donations to the electricity for old folks fund.
Tobacco lawsuit settlement funds.,Highway taxes. The list goes on.
Does anyone remember reading about, hearing about, or being told about this "partnership" bill?
Of course not, because it's just another end run stab-in-the-back by our corrupt state government.
Before the money hunt/fishing license and park entry was combined into the general fund there more than enough money to take care of the parks.
Step one to making every state park a landrys tourist trap. Get ready to pay $25 for parking & another $30 to swim in a lake.
