Rain sweeps through East Texas, power outages

THIS MORNING: Heavy showers and thunderstorms, some with frequent lightning and rain heavy enough to cause street flooding and flooding of low-lying areas. Some storms strong. Rain ending towards midday. Temperatures near 70 to low 70s. Winds SE 10-20 mph. THIS AFTERNOON: Rain ending early, but could redevelop in some areas late. Otherwise mostly cloudy, warm and humid. High 80. Winds SE 10-20 mph.

Traffic lights went out this morning around Tyler including the intersection of Houston St. and Broadway Ave.

More than 500 outages reported in Tyler and Longview in the morning.

SWEPCO reports the most outages overnight in Longview with about 5,000 people without service.
