UPDATE: Amber Alert- Missing boy found, 2 in custody
Two people are in custody after an Amber Alert was issued for a 5-year-old Hispanic boy taken from Maple Lawn Elementary in Dallas Tuesday afternoon.
Police said a man went into the school and took the boy, Edwin Villarreal, at about 2 p.m. He was reported to have left the scene in a purple van.
A short time later, a purple van was found parked in a driveway on the 5600 block of Mesa Circle -- only a few blocks away from the school. A man matching the suspect's description could be seen in front of the house casually talking to police. The man was later cuffed by police and taken into custody. NBC DFW has learned that a second person, a woman, was also taken into custody by police.
A boy, believed to be the alleged kidnap victim, was transported to Children's Medical Center in Dallas by ambulance. That boy exited the ambulance and walked into Children's with paramedics.
A witness described the man who took the child as Hispanic, between 30-35 years old, standing about 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 320 pounds. The man was wearing a sleeveless red shirt and cut-off blue jean shorts. The man drove away from the school in a full-sized dark purple or black Ford van with the last three digits on the license plate believed to be 643.
The school is located at 3120 Inwood Road, between Lemmon and Maple avenues.
