Says issue would be moot if federal government would provide border security

Hidalgo---

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn is backing off his earlier support of Congress reviewing birthright citizenship.

The Texas Republican said Friday that taking another look at the 14th Amendment amid the national debate over immigration "is going after a symptom rather than the cause in the first place."

Cornyn previously backed calls for a review. He now says the issue would be moot if the federal government would provide stronger border security.

Cornyn spoke at a port of entry in Hidalgo along the U.S.-Mexico border.

He appeared with the Texas Border Coalition, which opposes calls to deny citizenship to children of illegal immigrants born in the U.S.

Typical REPUBLICAN, SORRY AS H*ELL

Senator Cornyn has been right on the issue of immigration until now. He stood shoulder to shoulder with Sen. Sessions of Alabama and Senator Vitter of Louisiana to stop the insane Kennedy Ammnesty bill last year. These three Senators are the best in the Senate, their values as far as lawmakers go are right on target. Senator Cornyn needs to stay on track on this issue, and anchor babies is one of the huge problems, not just with hispanics, but with others booking anchor baby 1.vacations

Any event that allows an illegal alien to get a foothold here is a MAGNET; and what bigger or better magnet can there be than to be the parent of a citizen!!

Big John needs to get right on this issue or get out of the senate and make way for someone who will fight for our sovereignty and security!!!

If a woman, with Mexican or other foreign citizenship, crosses over on a Visa into the US, then has a baby in a US facility, the baby should have same citizenship and Visa rights as the mother. Upon birth of the baby, both baby and mother should return to Mexico upon expiration of their Visa. The baby should not be an American citizen simply by virtue of birth.

The President's situation notwhthstanding.
