Midday Storms Done... More Rain on the Way!!!
A few strong storms moved though our Southeast counties causing some trees damage along highway 87 near Hemphill and highway 96 S near Pineland. Most of the rain has moved out of the KETK viewing area, but a few isolated showers could continue to pop-up during these late afternoon hours and coming to an end by this evening.
The cold front that has now moved just to our south has stalled. For most of the time period from this weekend into the early part of next week the front will stretch from Southeast Texas, northwestward across Central and then Northwest Texas and up along the front range of the Rockies. That front will serve as a battle ground between cooler and drier air in the Midwest and Mississipi River Valley and very warm and humid air near the Gulf Coast and up through Central and West Texas. The tricky part will be forecasting minor upper air disturbances that will move south-southeastward in an unstable northwesterly flow aloft and interact with the front to lead to occasional areas of showers and thunderstorms moving southeastward from western and central Oklahoma into parts of Texas. These minor disturbances will continue to give us rain chances through mid-week. By late next week the upper level "heat pump" high may start to build back in from the west leading to sunnier and somewhat hotter weather again.
