SUNSHINE RETURNS BY MONDAY
March 14, 2009 - 4:34pm
**Flood Warning for the Sabine River, especially near Mineola; the Neches River especially near Neches; the Attoyac Bayou, especially near Chireno; and the Ayish Bayou especially near San Augustine until Sunday evening.**
The signficant rain event is now over, although drizzle and light rain is possilbe tonight for our southern counties. Totals have averaged 3.0-3.5" in southern areas.......and 4 to 6 inches in the central and northern portions of East Texas. Tyler Pounds field recorded 4.43" for a 3 day total and the East Texas Regional Airport in Longview received 3.47". The highest totals included 6.7" in Ironton in central Cherokee county, 5.7" near the UT Health Center in northeast Smith county, 5.64" at the KETK56 studios in south Tyler, 5.30" in the Palestine area and 5.3" in Payne Springs in western Henderson county. Temperatures will slowly moderate reaching the 50s on Sunday. However, much nicer weather is likely by Monday afternoon as southerly winds finally increase enough to mix the atmosphere up enough to break the cloud deck. The combination of sunshine and southerly winds will mean high temperatures should jump into the lower 70s by late Monday afternoon and continue in the 70s each afternoon right through Wednesday. A weak cold front may bring temperatues down a bit on Thursday and Friday, but a return of really cold weather is not likely.
**The recent heavy rain has meant a lifting of the Burn Ban for Angelina County with a few other East Texas counties likely to drop their Burn Bans early next week. Neither Smith nor Gregg counties are currently under Burn Bans....the only counties with Burn Bans currently in effect are: Rains, Henderson, Houston, Trinity and Nacogdoches.**
