1:30 AM WEDNESDAY UPDATE:

***ALL WARNINGS HAVE EXPIRED***HOWEVER WATCH FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF SOME REMAINING HIGH WATER AND SOME ROAD DAMAGE IN PARTS OF WOOD, UPSHUR, HOPKINS, FRANKLIN, TITUS, MORRIS, CAMP, CASS, MARION AND HARRISON COUNTIES***

***AREAS OF DENSE FOG CAN MAKE DRIVING DANGEROUS IN SOME AREAS EARLY THIS MORNING***

It was a very rainy Tuesday across East with extremely heavy rain totals in some areas, especially just to the north of Tyler and Longview where 3 to 6 inch rain totals were common in parts of Wood, Upshur, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, Morris, Camp and Cass counties where several dozen roads were flooded and impassable for up to a few hours and several high water rescues occurred, especially in the Mount Pleasant area. An earthern damn broke just to the north of Mineola causing 3 homes to be evacuated. A few school districts have delayed or cancelled cancelled classes for Wednesday in parts of Wood and Upshur counties due to damage to a few rural roads. The flooding was also serious in parts of southwest Arkansas and NW Louisiana.

Fortunately most of the really heavy rain is over, but the dreary weather will continue for another 24 to 36 hours. With the frontal boundary remaining just to the south of Tyler and Longview, there will be some areas of dense fog in the cooler air to the north of the front. Visibilities can be near zero in some areas, mainly to the north of a line from Palestine to Jacksonville and to Henderson.

On Wednesday as the front moves a bit to the north we should see very warm temperatures in the soutehrn portions of East Texas with highs in the mid to upper 80s likely in the Lufkin and Nacogdoches areas. However, the front will have a hard time making much to the north of Tyler and Longview and therefore high temperatures in the northern counties of East Texas may not make it much higher than the lower 70s. More showers will develop, espeically later in the afternoon and during the evening. Rain totls should not be nearly as heavy as on Tuesday, but a few places could receive an additional 0.25"-1.00".

On Thursday a strong cold front will sweep through from the north, possibly triggering 1 more round of heavy showers and storms, mainly in the eastern portions of East Texas. Then much cooler air and drier air will take over for Friday and the weekend. It will be very nice...but quite chilly with highs only in the 60s and 70s and lows down in the 40s and 50s. Lows might even reach the upper 30s in some far northern areas early Sunday morning. A warm-up will follow for the middle of nest week.
