Record Cold Outbreak Hits East Texas

May feels more like March!

The incredibly cold air mass that brought heavy snow to the Rockies and parts of the Midwest has now broken temperature records here in East Texas. At 3 AM, the temperature at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport reached 41 degrees, breaking the old record low for May 3rd of 42 degrees for Tyler, set in 1967! Longview is also close to it's record low of 39 early this morning. To make matters worse, a biting northwesterly wind of 15-20 mph is making the wind chill factor right around 32 degrees early this morning. On the bright side, the light rain has moved away and we'll see sunshine today, making it feel a little better by this afternoon. However, temperatures will stay well below normal, only reaching a high of about 60. More records are possible Saturday morning and Sunday morning as lows will reach the upper 30s and lower 40s. But at least it will be mostly sunny all weekend! Finally, we'll be able to enjoy a return of the 70s by Monday and possibly even 80 degrees by mid-week. In the meantime though, heat up the coffee or tea and grab that warm jacket, you'll surely need it the next few mornings!
