If you are ready to be done with this very cold, arctic weather, there is a slight warming trend by late this week.

But first:

In Tyler and Longview, we tied the old record low temperatures:

Tyler: 15°, old record on this day in 1972.
Longview: 16°, old record on this day in 1959.

Tonight will be another very cold night for our area. Hard Freeze Warning in effect from 12AM Tuesday morning through 9AM Tuesday morning for the following counties: Angelina, Camp, Cass, Cherokee, Franklin, Gregg, Harrison, Marion, Morris, Nacogdoches, Panola, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Smith, Titus, Upshur, and Wood.

When a Hard Freeze Warning is issued, forecasters are expecting overnight lows to be in the Teens area-wide. This extended period of below freezing is could kill crops/sensitive vegetation and rupture pipes if not protected. People and pets must also be protected from this cold as well.

Winds on Monday were out of the north, and by Monday night into early Tuesday morning, they will turn to the south and be light. This will allow for temperatures to likely be colder than it was Sunday night. We believe lows will be in the Teens once again.

Here are the forecast lows tonight:

Here are the record lows for Tuesday morning:

Tyler: 13°, 1912
Longview: 12°, 1912
Lufkin: 16°, 1910

Tuesday will be a cold morning across our area. We will have plenty of sunshine throughout the day and temperatures will finally rise above freezing across our area. KETK Meteorologists believe that high temperatures should reach the upper 30s to middle 40s in East Texas.

Wednesday morning, there could be a brief wintry mix if there is any precipitation. This could pose a problem due to a very cold ground, but the atmosphere will quickly turn any wintry precipitation into rain. KETK meteorologists are expecting little to no accumulation. Wednesday afternoon’s highs will reach the 40s to lower 50s with mostly cloudy skies.

The “Slight” Warming Trend

Thursday into Friday look to be very mild days with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms. By Friday evening, we’re expecting a cold front to move through our area. The second half of the weekend looks to be dry.
