Weather Talk: Week in review, temperature swing & heavy rainfall
(KETK) - Tyler, Tx — What a week for East Texas! The unusual cold front that arrived to East Texas on Monday night into Tuesday really kept us cool Thursday and Friday and provided a significant amount of rain.
Temperatures This Week
We took a 25 degree drop in high temperatures from Sunday to Friday. Here are Tyler's high temperatures throughout the week.
On Friday, Tyler, Longview, and Lufkin broke records for the coolest July 18th on record.
Here were the additional highs on Friday across East Texas.
Heavy Rainfall Thursday & Friday
The other major weather story this week was the heavy rainfall received Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday morning, most rain occurred in northern areas. By Thursday night, Deep East Texas had very heavy rain develop. It lasted through the overnight hours and finally exited by Friday morning.

Radar estimates match up with our weather watchers and airport reports. However, in Deep East Texas, rainfall rates via radar show higher amounts--between 8-12 inches of rain from Trinity to Sabine county,
Brenda Jones, a viewer in Apple Springs (Trinity county), sent us a photo of water erosion in her roping pin. She says that they received at least 7.50 inches of rain Thursday night and Friday morning.
It surely has been an impressive week for East Texas. Temperatures look to gradually warm up back into the low 90s by Monday and into the middle and upper 90s by mid-to-late week. Our average high is between 93-94 degrees.
