------------------------------------------

There were a lot of questions about this morning’s event. The causes of the wintry weather to not happen were due to temperatures being just above freezing and the limited moisture across our area. Also, winds this morning were northeast at about 5-15 miles per hour.

Here’s what we’re forecasting for today.

LATE THIS MORNING — THIS AFTERNOON

Moisture will return back into East Texas by the afternoon as the shortwave in west Texas moves east. The morning water vapor imagery shows a moisture increase in West Texas.

Our morning model of Futurecast brings in precipitation. This should begin by late morning and into the afternoon.

Futurecast brings temperatures to the freezing point around this timeframe as well. So this precipitation this afternoon will likely be in the form of sleet. Initially, this precipitation will be liquid on contact.

THIS EVENING — TONIGHT

Temperatures during the evening will be falling, and could lead to some freezing rain, sleet, and snow showers. Here’s the Futurecast model of precipitation and temperatures for this evening.

All of this moves out by Midnight tonight, and we are in for a cold night. Overnight lows will be in the upper 20s with cloudy skies. There is a concern for area bridges and overpasses to have some icy patches overnight with those surfaces getting colder quicker than the non-elevated areas. Areas of black ice possible all across East Texas.

A CHANGE IS COMING

The upper level shortwave swings through tonight into Wednesday morning. We’ll have a cold start to your Wednesday morning, but temperatures will warm up to the 40s to near 50. The upper level pattern changes and places East Texas under a ridge. This ridge will provide much warmer weather for our area.
