Skate Park

I have been hearing a lot of complaining about the skate park since it opened. People getting hurt, people being rude and using bad language and that skaters are leaving their trash behind (cups, things like that). First off, if you did not expect these problems at first then you live in a perfect world and you should stay there because in my world (the real world) there are many different people and some cause problems.

I want to address the trash issue, but I feel that I need to state that people will always get hurt at a skate park, but the longer we have it the more people will learn to skate. The better they will get at skating. The more we use the park the less injuries there will be. It is new to us right now and it shows. These problems will work themselves out over time.

Now to the trash issue. I took this picture this morning at a local park that had a little league game the night before. I wish I had a better camera because this picture does not show nearly all the trash that was thrown around. After the little league game the park was “trashed”. Cups, cans, bottles and all kinds of trash everywhere.

So I pose this question to you: Is it okay for trash to be thrown at a baseball game and the city cleans it up without a complaint when there have been complaints about the skate park trash? I do not indorse throwing trash on the ground anywhere, but my point is that it happens when large groups of people get together. It’s not right, but it does happen.
